Taiwanese host Matilda Tao just made roots in Singapore and she has already made the list of nominees for Star Awards 2024’s Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes for the first time.

The 54-year-old has been living in Singapore with her 15-year-old son, nicknamed ‘Little Dragon’, who has been studying at an international school since January.

Tao also joined Love 972’s roster of radio DJs and has her own show Tao Xin Shijian, which started on March 11. It runs on weekdays from 11am to noon.

The list of nominees - for both male and female artistes - was revealed on Monday (18 March) and it boasts “more nominees than ever before”. The award honours artistes with more than five years of experience.

Aside from Tao, other notable nominees are Yvonne Lim and Pornsak as they have both won the award (for female and male respectively) nine times. If they snag a win in this year’s Star Awards, it’ll mark the 10th time for both and they’ll be able to receive their All-Time Favourite Artiste award in 2025.

Incidentally, Lim also returned to Singapore this year and expressed concerns about her son’s ability to adapt to the local education system.

Coming in hot behind Lim and Pornsak are stars Paige Chua, Carrie Wong, Guo Liang, and Romeo Tan. The four of them have won the award eight times, and another win will put them one step closer to the All-Time Favourite Artiste award. Fun fact, they have won the award for - at least - the last three years.
