Hezbollah 'will make mistake of its life' if it starts war with Israel Netanyahu warns as he threatens retaliation

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has visited troops stationed near the border with Lebanon and warned Hezbollah against entering a war with Israel, otherwise it will "make the mistake of its life".

The Shia Islamist militant group would be crippled by a force "it cannot even imagine" and the consequences would be "devastating", Mr Netanyahu said on Sunday.

The Israeli army and Iran-backed Hezbollah militants have traded fire during the Hamas-Israel war.

Speaking to troops in the north on Sunday, Mr Netanyahu said Israel would react more fiercely than it did during its short 2006 war with Hezbollah, which is based in Lebanon.

"If Hezbollah decides to enter the war, it will miss the Second Lebanon War. It will make the mistake of its life. We will cripple it with a force it cannot even imagine and the consequences for it and the Lebanese state are devastating," the Israeli leader said.

An Israeli missile attack targeted Damascus and Aleppo international airports early on Sunday, killing one civilian worker and putting the airports out of service, Syrian state media reported.

Scheduled flights to and from Damascus and Aleppo airports were diverted to Latakia International Airport, according to the Ministry of Transportation.

At least four killed in attack on West Bank, says Palestinian Health Ministry

The Palestinian Health Ministry in the West Bank said at least four people were killed by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank early Sunday.

The ministry said two were killed in the Jenin refugee camp, which includes the Al-Ansar mosque where Israel's military said it launched an airstrike. The two fatalities have yet to be identified. It also said Israeli forces shot and killed two men in northern cities of the West Bank: a 19-year-old in Tubas and a 26-year-old in Nablus.

Israeli strikes kill two workers at Syria's Damascus airport

Palestinians said they had received warnings from Israel's military to move from north Gaza to the south of the strip or be seen as sympathisers with a "terrorist organisation".

The ominous warning was issued to residents via both leaflets and mobile phone audio messages.

"Urgent warning, to residents of Gaza. Your presence north of Wadi Gaza puts your life in danger. Whoever chooses not to leave north Gaza to the south of Wadi Gaza might be identified as an accomplice in a terrorist organisation," the leaflet said.

Minister warns pro-Palestine protesters against 'inciting terrorist violence' on streets of London

Speaking to Sky’s Sunday Morning With Trevor Phillips, Mr Jenrick said: “Chanting jihad on the streets of London is completely reprehensible and I never want to see scenes like that. It is inciting terrorist violence and it needs to be tackled with the full force of the law.

“Ultimately, it’s an operational matter for the police and the CPS (Crown Prosecution Service) whether to press charges".

Arrests have been made… there have been arrests since the beginning of this situation. And we want to make sure that the police do everything that they can to protect British Jews.”

He added: “There have been arrests under terrorist legislation. And we want to do everything that we can to protect British Jews.

“But this is a broader question beyond just legality, it also is a question about values. And there should be a consensus in this country that chanting things like jihad is completely reprehensible and wrong and we don’t ever want to see that in our country."

Hamas is holding 212 people hostage in Gaza, Israel says

Israel says it has confirmed that Hamas is holding 212 people hostage in Gaza.

An Israeli military spokesperson added that dozens of Palestinian militants were killed in overnight airstrikes.

"On the northern front, Israel has been attacking fighters trying to fire missiles in across the Lebanese border and struck a site in Lebanon from where a missile was fired at an Israeli aircraft," Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said in a briefing.

Palestinian ambassador to UK believes al Ahli hospital strike was 'fired by Israel'

The Palestinian ambassador to the UK has said he thinks the missile that hit al Ahli hospital was “fired by Israel”.

Asked who the Palestinian Authority thinks bears responsibility for the deadly explosion at the Gaza hospital, Husam Zomlot told Sky News’ Sunday Morning With Trevor Phillips programme: “Overall it is Israel and in this particular incident it is Israel as well.

“Overall because Israel is an occupying power and, Trevor, you know international law, they should be providing protection when they know there is a hospital and there are hundreds of doctors, of medical staff, of nurses, of patients, of people taking refuge, they should provide protection.

“But practically speaking we don’t believe that such firepower is owned by anybody not only in Palestine but in the region except Israel.”

Asked if he thinks the missiles that fell on the hospital were fired by Israel, he said: “Yes, fired by Israel.”

Hamas has blamed Israel for the hospital strike, while Tel Aviv pointed the finger at a rocket misfire by Islamic Jihad, another militant group operating in Gaza.

Nandy says Labour does not support 'despair and suffering of Palestinians'

Shadow international development secretary Lisa Nandy said Labour is “not supporting the continuation of the despair and suffering of the Palestinian people”.

Speaking to Sky’s Sunday Morning With Trevor Phillips, she said Labour supports Israel’s “right to self-defence and to return the hostages, and we support the Palestinian people, especially in Gaza, at what is a desperately, desperately critical, difficult time, where the world simply cannot afford to walk away”.

The Labour frontbencher said Labour has “always been a friend to both Israel and Palestine”, but said a two-state solution has become a “very distant prospect, particularly for the Palestinians over at least the last decade and a half”.

She added: “People in Gaza have been running out of hope, they have been watching settlements being built in the West Bank, illegal settlements that are making the prospect of a two-statement solution very, very difficult… and the world hasn’t shown the same level of care and attention to this as we ought to have done, and we are determined that that’s going to change.”

Asked about councillors resigning from Labour and criticism of the party’s position, she said: “We are not supporting the continuation of the despair and suffering of the Palestinian people at all.”

Former BBC director general says corporation 'always gets attacked in times of crisis'

The former director general of the BBC has said that the corporation “always gets attacked in times of crisis” and suggested that criticism of its reporting on the Israel and Hamas conflict is inevitable.

Greg Dyke told Sky News: “At times of crisis, the BBC always gets attacked by both sides, always, go back to Falklands.

“I seem to remember back in the Falklands (war), (Prime Minister) Mrs. (Margaret) Thatcher attacked the BBC for not saying that ‘our boys’ as opposed to British troops.

Steve Coogan condemns ‘horrific’ Hamas attacks as he defends Gaza support letter

Actor Steve Coogan has condemned Hamas’s attacks on Israel after facing criticism for signing a letter that called for a ceasefire in Gaza and for the government to “end their military and political support for Israel’s action”.

More than 2,000 actors and musicians signed the letter but it was criticised for not mentioning Hamas and the attacks on Israeli citizens.

In a statement on Sunday, Coogan said: “I do of course condemn the recent Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel; their deliberate murder of civilians and their taking of hostages. All right thinking people do.

“The Jewish people have been uniquely the target of hate and prejudice for millennia and anyone who cares about human rights should be vigilant and call it out when they encounter it.”

He added: “It goes without saying that what Hamas did is evil beyond imagination. It was horrific and brutal.

“It is in no way inconsistent with condemnation of the Hamas atrocity, to express grave concern for the lives and welfare of innocent Palestinian civilians facing a humanitarian disaster, deprived of food, water, medicine fuel and shelter.”

Gaza health ministry: 4,651 Palestinians killed in Israeli strikes since October 7

At least 4,651 people have died since Israel launched airstrikes in Gaza on October 7, according to regional officials.

Gaza's health ministry spokesman said more than 14,245 others have been wounded, with 70 per cent of them being children and women.

Spokesman Ashraf Al-Qudra said that Israel strikes had killed 266 Palestinians over the past 24 hours, including 117 children.

Second aid convoy enters Rafah crossing

A second convoy of aid trucks entered the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing on Sunday and is being inspected before it heads to the Gaza Strip, according to Reuters.

Israel warns Hezbollah against joining war

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Hezbollah on Sunday against opening a second war front with Israel, saying that doing so would bring Israeli counter-strikes of "unimaginable" magnitude that would wreak "devastation" upon Lebanon.

In an official transcript of a briefing Netanyahu gave Israeli commandos near the Lebanese border, he also said: "I cannot tell you right now if Hezbollah will decide to enter the (Gaza) war fully."

Amnesty International accuses both Hamas and Israel of 'war crimes'

Amnesty International UK chief executive Sacha Deshmukh said: “It is right that the Prime Minister and other leading UK politicians are calling for restoring water and humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza.

“But the fact that neither the Government nor the main opposition party are willing to condemn Israel’s clear breaches of international law is wrong and fails to hold Israel to account in a consistent way.

“The brutal attacks against Israeli civilians by Palestinian armed groups were war crimes.

“But Israel is responding to war crimes with more war crimes, which can never be justified, rationalised, or ignored. UK politicians must explicitly oppose all war crimes, whether by Palestinian armed groups or the Israeli authorities.”

Five Hezbollah militants die, group says

Hezbollah announced the deaths of five more militants as clashes along the Lebanon-Israel border intensified.

Hezbollah has reported the deaths of 24 of its militants since Hamas' October 7 rampage in southern Israel.

Lebanon's state-run National News Agency reported that small arms fire was heard along the tense border. Meanwhile, Israel shelled areas near the southeastern Lebanese town of Blida.Israeli military spokesman Jonathan Conricus accused the group early on Sunday of "escalating the situation steadily."

He said the recent cross-border skirmishes had produced both Israeli troop and civilian casualties.

Israeli soldier killed in anti-tank missile, IDF says

An Israeli soldier was killed by an anti-tank missile on Sunday during a raid into the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip, the military said.

Israeli troops have been conducting raids across the border, which the military says are meant to clear the area and gather intelligence about missing people and captives being held by militant group Hamas in the enclave.

"An IDF (Israel Defense Forces) soldier was killed, one was moderately injured, and two were lightly injured as a result of an anti-tank missile launched toward an IDF tank and an engineering vehicle," the military said.
