Honkai Star Rail reveals Imbibitor Lunae, Fu Xuan as new 5-stars coming in 1.3

If you're wondering why Imbibitor Lunae looks familiar, that's because he's the 5-star version of Dan Heng.

Honkai: Star Rail developer HoYoverse has officially revealed the two new playable 5-star characters that will be released in version 1.3: Imbibitor Lunae and Fu Xuan.

HoYoverse dropped Imbibitor Lunae’s drip marketing on Tuesday (4 July) and Fu Xuan’s on Wednesday (5 July).

Imbibitor Lunae wields the Imaginary element and follows the Path of Destruction, which makes him the first dedicated DPS Imaginary character. He joins a formidable roster of Imaginary characters like the 5-star healer Luocha, 5-star debuffer Welt Yang, and 4-star buffer Yukong.

In ‘History of the Xianzhou: The Five Dragons' Exodus’, Imbibitor Lunae is described as the “High Elder of the Luofu, bearer of the Azure Dragon's legacy” and one who “[brings] forth clouds and rain, and entrusted with the duty of guarding the Ambrosial Arbor.”

Imbibitor Lunae seems to have the ability to summon a dragon made of water to attack his enemies. This ability ties into his name, which consists of the Latin words Imbibitor and Lunae.

Imbibitor is a verb that means 'to drink in' or 'assimilate', relating to water. Meanwhile, Lunae is an inflection of Luna, the Latin word for the moon. The moon notably figures prominently in Imbibitor Lunae's splash art and Dan Heng's ultimate animation.

If you’re wondering why Imbibitor Lunae looks suspiciously like the Astral Express Crew’s Dan Heng, that’s because he is Dan Heng. Or maybe it would be more accurate to say that Imbibitor Lunae is who Dan Heng was before he became Dan Heng and joined the Astral Express.

While the Trailblazer, March 7th, and Welt Yang have been adventuring through the Xianzhou Luofu, Dan Heng has also boarded the worldship and gone on a side adventure of his own alongside Luocha and Sushang.

With Imbibitor Lunae’s release in version 1.3, we expect the game’s story to touch on how the Imbibitor Lunae became the Dan Heng we now know.

Fu Xuan wields the Quantum element and follows the Path of Preservation, making her the first tank-type Quantum character. While Preservation characters are versatile by nature, Fu Xuan will be especially valuable in a mono-Quantum team alongside 5-star DPS Seele, 4-star DPS Qingque, and 5-star debuffer Silver Wolf.

Fu Xuan is the head of the Xianzhou Luofu's Divination Commission, using her third eye and the Matrix of Prescience to calculate the worldship’s route and defend it by predicting future events. She is also known for her confident and blunt nature, firmly believing that everything she does is the best solution for any situation.

In the Xianzhou Luofu storyline so far, Fu Xuan helped the Astral Express Crew apprehend and interrogate the Stellaron Hunter Kafka. The head of the Divination Commission is also gunning for Jing Yuan’s position as Arbiter-General of the Luofu, even though his promised ‘abdication’ seems very far away.

Imbibitor Lunae and Fu Xuan will be released in Honkai: Star Rail version 1.3, which is expected to be released in late August.

Honkai: Star Rail is currently in the second half of version 1.1, which will run until 18 July, and features the Imaginary Harmony character Luocha as the featured 5-star.

After version 1.1 comes version 1.2, featuring the Stellaron Hunters Kafka and Blade as the featured 5-stars alongside new 4-star character Luka.
