The golfer who beheaded a goose has explained why he decapitated the bird

The golfer who killed a goose by decapitating it with a club has explained why he beheaded the bird.

The unnamed golfer was filmed by a friend at Vantaa Golf Club near Helsinki in Finland.

In the video, he stands over the goose and aims his golf club at it, before swinging at the animal, striking it and decapitating it.

Police are investigating the incident and the golfer was arrested on Friday night.

But he has told Finnish website Ilta-Sanomat that he only struck the animal with his club to put it out of its misery.

He claimed he had accidentally hit the goose with a golf ball after striking one of his drives.

He said he was unaware that he would decapitate the animal by striking it.

The man was not a member of the golf club where he was playing, but it has banned him from returning.

The video clip was initially shared among friends on a WhatsApp group but was then leaked and eventually passed to police by the golf club.

The golfer reportedly contacted the police after the video went viral.
