Dota 2 TI10 Day 6 recap: OG survive, Quincy Crew and Fnatic eliminated

The competition is only continuing to heat up at The International 10 (TI10) at the end of the second day of its Main Event. In the upper bracket, Chinese juggernauts PSG.LGD defeated top Southeast Asian team T1, 2-1, while Eastern Europe's Virtus.pro (VP) triumphed over China's Vici Gaming (VG), 2-1.

Meanwhile in the lower bracket, another Eastern European team emerged victorious after Team Spirit eliminated Southeast Asia's Fnatic before back-to-back defending TI champions OG bounced back from their surprising loss in day one of the Main Event by sending North America's Quincy Crew home.

Upper Bracket

T1 2-1 PSG.LGD

Tournament favourites PSG.LGD kicked the day off with a dominant 35-minute victory over T1, with carry player Wang "Ame" Chunyu on Terrorblade notching a clean 12 kills and six assists to lead his team to an expected win in the series opener.

However, T1 were able to edge out PSG.LGD in a thoroughly entertaining 54-minute marathon in game two to send the series to a decider.

Unfortunately for SEA fans, the Chinese juggernauts seemed undeterred from their previous loss as they cruised to a 37-minute victory that ended with a very lopsided 32-9 kill score, with PSG.LGD midlaner Cheng "NothingToSay" Jin Xiang on Ember Spirit recording 11 kills and 15 assists against zero deaths.

Virtus.pro 2-1 Vici Gaming

The second matchup of the upper bracket was a showdown between veteran Chinese team VG and a young but highly-talented VP squad. VG's experience seemed like it would be the deciding factor early into the series, as they got a comfortable 39-minute victory in the opener.

However, VP were able to storm back into the series behind a show-stopping performance from midlaner Danil "gpk" Skutin on Puck, who had 13 kills and 11 assists against just one death in 45 minutes of action.

VG seemed stunned in the decisive third game, as VP overran them in a 33-minute rout. Gpk on Storm Spirit once again led the way for the Eastern European squad, notching a series-high 15 kills and 12 assists against three deaths, while carry player Egor "Nightfall" Grigorenko on Luna pitched in with 12 kills and 16 assists of his own and just one death.

Lower Bracket

Team Spirit 2-0 Fnatic

The first of two elimination matches of the day saw Team Spirit outclass Fnatic in a 2-0 series sweep that totalled just over 62 minutes of action.

Spirit carry player Illya "Yatoro" Mulyarchuk had a perfect series, notching eight kills and assists apiece as Luna in the 25-minute game one then recording a series-high 14 kills as Sven in a 37-minute stomp in game two.

OG 2-0 Quincy Crew

The final series of the day was a dramatic elimination match that pit two brothers, Quincy Crew's Yawar "YawaR" Hassan and OG's Sumail "SumaiL" Hassan, against one another.

While everyone expected a showdown between the two siblings, it was Topias "Topson" Taavitsainen who stole the show as he led OG to a 2-0 victory to keep the back-to-back defending champions' three-peat hopes alive.

Despite being the heavy underdogs in the matchup, Quincy Crew were in control for much of the opening game of the series. However, Topson willed OG to a come-from-behind 40-minute victory with a jaw-dropping 20-kill, four-assist performance on Void Spirit.

Topson once again led the way for OG in game two, dominating the early game as Dawnbreaker before spearheading a relentless onslaught during the midgame that forced the GG call from Quincy Crew after 38 minutes of action.

Topson had a game-high 11 kills to close out the series, a mark that was also reached by OG support Martin "Saksa" Sazdov on Snapfire.

With today's results, T1 and VG have been dropped to the lower bracket to face Alliance and Evil Geniuses respectively on day three of the Main Event on 14 October.

PSG.LGD and VP will be facing one another in the second semi-finals match of the upper bracket on the fourth day of the Main Event on 15 October. OG and Spirit will take each other on the same day.

Meanwhile, Fnatic and Quincy Crew bow out of TI10 in 9th-12th place and will take home US$800,400 in consolation.

TI10 is this year's iteration of Dota 2's annual world championship tournament. The event features 18 of the best Dota 2 teams in the world battling from 7 to 17 October in Bucharest, Romania for the right to claim the lion's share of a massive US$40 million prize pool as well as the coveted Aegis of Champions.
