SINGAPORE — They are finally coming to Singapore: Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr, better known as U2.

The Irish rock band, which rocketed into global popularity in the 1980s and are still going strong with sell-out tours worldwide, will perform in Singapore for the first time in their 40-odd-year career.

Details have yet to be finalised, but the Singapore stop will be part of The Joshua Tree 2019 Tour, which will hit selected cities in Australia, New Zealand, Japan and – also for the first time – South Korea.

The tour will kick off on 8 November in Auckland, and finish in Seoul on 8 December. Singapore’s date is likely to be between the Perth concert on 27 November and the Tokyo gig on 4 December.

The tour is likely to be similar to U2’s tour of Europe and the Americas in 2017, when they celebrated the 30th anniversary of their biggest-selling record, The Joshua Tree, by playing the entire album in concert.

Frontman Bono said of the upcoming tour, “It's only taken me 30 years to learn how to sing these songs and it's great to be able to say that I've finally caught up with the band. Our audience has given The Joshua Tree a whole new life on this tour.

“Doing these shows has been very special for us, a lot of emotion. From the despair of how relevant some of the dark songs still are, to the joy and pure fun of the staging... It's quite a ride.

“And now we get to do it all over again. Auckland, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Sydney, Tokyo, Singapore, Seoul... We're coming for you."

The date, venue and ticketing information for Singapore is coming soon. Ticket pre-sales to U2.com subscribers begin on 4 June and run till 6 June.
