Earlier this week, George Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man, was suffocated after a police officer pinned down Floyd's neck with his knee. Protests have since erupted in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where Floyd lived, and have led to President Trump threatening military intervention if protestors don't step down.

In response to Trump's chilling threat of violence, Taylor Swift posted a response on Twitter. She wrote, "After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? ‘When the looting starts the shooting starts’??? We will vote you out in November. @realdonaldtrump."

Siobhan Murphy, Senior Communications Manager at Twitter, revealed on Friday, "This is now @taylorswift13's most Liked Tweet, hitting 1M Likes in <5 hours."

Swift's emotive and political tweet sees the superstar take a stand against the president's actions. The "Shake It Off" singer has famously shied away from sharing her political affiliations in the past, so her stance on the devastating death of Floyd, and the president's subsequent tweets, is incredibly important.

Swift was responding to Trump's tweet which said, "These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won't let that happen. Just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you!"
