REVIEW: Get to Korea without flying with this themed staycay at Quincy Hotel Singapore

Quincy Hotel Singapore is a boutique hotel by Far East Hospitality. Located at Cairnhill Road in a quiet residential neighbourhood, it is a mere 10 minutes away (by foot) from the main Orchard Road shopping belt.

From now until February 2023, the hotel is offering a 3D2N ‘Cool Weekend Package’, which is a Korean-inspired staycation experience. It's great for those who miss travelling to Korea but might not be ready to fly over, or those who crave some respite with a themed staycation. We were invited to a hosted stay to experience the staycation experience, and for your convenience...

TL;DR

A small slice of Korea

Now, for those who prefer more details. A myriad of experiences and even meals are included in the package, and we have here a peek into what we experienced over 3D2N.

We were greeted by a bag full of snacks (from Korea, of course) on the room's table, along with a set of hanbok (traditional ethnic Korean clothing) for both male and female hanging neatly in the wardrobe.

My partner and I wore the adorable matching set in blue and pink. The traditional costumes were easy to put on; great for those who had never worn them before. The traditional clothing comes in three sizes – small, medium and large.

We were encouraged to wear them and take photos around the hotel. For those who have had a ‘hanbok experience’ in one of Korea’s palaces, the experience is similar.

This package includes a chicken-and-beer dinner set for two pax at the pretty outdoor space (The Lawn). A kimchi pancake and side dishes are also served. Everything was beautifully presented and perfect on camera, but fall short on taste.

Tons of photo-taking opportunities

Activities for this package were carefully curated to help you get many opportunities to take pretty photos. There is a visit to the Walking On Sunshine hair salon and café, as well as a ‘self-photo’ studio session.

The hotel's vendor for the studio session(included in this package) is Photoholic, a self-photo studio tucked away in the corner of the second floor in Orchard Gateway. The popularity of such studios has soared in Korea, and is increasingly popular in Singapore.

There are no photographers in these studios; visitors snap photos of themselves with a remote shutter within a set time frame. Pro tip: Come up with some sample poses beforehand so you can get in as many shots as much as you can.

Walking On Sunshine hair salon and cafe is located on the third floor of Orchard Central. The salon is known for its Korean and Japanese hairstylists, while the café serves Korean-Western fusion dishes, and is also known for its ginseng beverages.

The food was as photogenic as the café, but there are tastier fusion options elsewhere. At the salon, we completed a Wash & Blow Dry session in under 30 minutes as part of the package. The need for speed was a distinctly Korean 'ppalli-ppalli' (‘fast fast’) style.

The careful curation of themed activities makes the entire experience enjoyable and stress-free, since the hotel staff will help arrange these bookings on your behalf. But if you are particular about the order of the activities (for example, you only want to do your hair BEFORE the photo studio session), inform the hotel of your preferred days and timings beforehand.
