It’s nice to have a hobby, isn’t it? Something to tear you away from Netflix and give you a sense of accomplishment.

Some hobbies, however, are less conventional than others.

Take Jian Yang, who claims to have spent more than £350,000 on Barbie dolls from around the world.

Amounting to more than 10,000 Barbies, the collection engulfs the 38-year-old businessman’s house in Singapore.

He’s apparently been buying them for more than 30 years, though stopped bothering to count how many he has when he reached 9,000 dolls.

He told Metro: “I’ve loved Barbie since 1984, when I accidentally opened my sister’s Christmas present. Great Shape Barbie started it all.

“I’ve been buying Barbie ever since. So I never started ‘collecting’. I just continued buying.

“I would estimate that I have more than 10,000 dolls. I stopped counting at 9,000.

“I think I have spent over £350,000. But I don’t really want to know.”

Thanks to travelling a lot for work, he buys dolls from all over the globe – though he said he’s never really seen himself as a “collector”:

“I’ve never even seen myself as a collector,” he said. “Just as a guy who likes dolls.

“Honestly I don’t even see the need to find like-minded people who want to ‘play’ dolls. I’ve always seen it as a private thing.

“Anyone who’s known me for a while knows I’ve always had dolls. To the point it’s not even shocking anymore. It’s become intrinsic to my personality.”

He added: “I think there will always be a social stigma for guys who collect dolls, and I’m very proud to say I probably don’t fit into any of those stereotypes.”

You do you, Yang.
