Kim Kardashian has clapped back at criticism of that Balenciaga Met Gala outfit.

If you’ve been following the looks from Monday’s star-studded event, you’ll have seen Kim’s controversial all-black Balenciaga get-up - not the mention the many, many memes it spawned.

The completely covered (including her face), all-black jersey outfit obscured Kim from head to toe, with the only visible part of her body being a 75-inch, floor-length ponytail.

The inspiration behind her look reportedly came from Kardashian West's estranged husband Kanye, who skipped the event, but allegedly encouraged her to be more daring with her clothes.

Not everyone has been so supportive, however: some Twitter users have compared Kim to a Dementor, while countless memes have been created poking fun at the difference between her outfit and that of her more traditionally dressed half-sister, Kendall.

Many have also criticised Kim for not adhering to the Met Gala’s theme which, this year, was ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion’.

But in an Instagram post to her 253 million followers, Kim hit back, saying: ‘What’s more American than a T-shirt head to toe?!’

Kim has form when it comes to out-there Met Gala ensembles - remember that infamous ‘couch dress’ by Givenchy? - but her latest look was by far her most daring yet.

Given that the Met Gala is known as an occasion to celebrate avant-garde fashion, we’re right behind Kim’s experimental approach. What will she come up with next year? Over to you, Kim…
