An 18-year-old United States Navy seaman who was reported missing in Singapore earlier this week was found on Friday (11 May), said police.

Yahoo News Singapore understands that Seth Austin Woods was found safe and sound on Friday morning.

“Fireman Seth Woods was located in Singapore (on) May 11 and is now in the custody of local US Navy officials. The US Navy thanks local Singapore law enforcement authorities for their assistance in locating the missing service member,” Lieutenant Commander Arlo Abrahamson, US Navy spokesperson for the US 7th Fleet in Singapore said.

“The US Navy will fully investigate the reasons why the Sailor went missing,” he added.

A thread posted on social site Reddit on Tuesday by user jms428, who claimed to be a distant cousin of Woods, has also been updated with his latest whereabouts.

“Seth is safe and back with the Navy. Thank you all for the support and understanding in this stressful time for his family. I don’t have any more info than that,” wrote the user.

Woods had reportedly gone missing after visiting an undisclosed 7-Eleven outlet with a friend after they got off their ship on Sunday, according to the user.

The user had earlier written on Tuesday, “His friend went to 7-11 and he went to a smoking area to vape. When his friend came back he was gone.”

According to the police in an appeal for information on Wednesday, Woods was last seen in the vicinity of Raffles Boulevard and Temasek Boulevard on Tuesday at about 8am.
