This man took his wife's name when they got married and people love it

A man has been inundated with praise after choosing to takes his wife's surname after marriage.

Grant Phillips wrote on Facebook that, “After much time and consideration, I have made the decision to take my wife’s surname of Phillips.”

He said there were "so many reasons as to why this is the right decision", but the main one was to help continue her family name.

As his wife, Jade, is “one of two girls without any cousins, and therefore their name will be lost after this generation,” Grant is ensuring that the surname Phillips doesn’t disappear.

If that wasn’t romantic enough, Grant then challenges those who think a man choosing to take his wife’s surname is emasculating: “I know a lot of people have the perception that a man taking his wife’s name is somewhat emasculating… Each to their own I guess. I, on the other hand, believe this is a sad perspective based on an understanding of an outdated tradition which centres around ownership,” he continues.

Concluding his heartfelt post, Grant wrote, “For me, I am honoured that Jade would like me to take her name,” and we can see why Jade chose to marry Grant.

Grant’s post has been met with positive reactions from his friends and family, who support his choice.

Wendy Brook commented, “Awesome matey, very progressive of you both. Grant Phillips has a nice ring to it as well.”

Maddy Johnson wrote, “I hope you guys have a lot of kids because there needs to be more people in the world like you!”

And Christine Atallah praised Grant’s choice while sharing an interesting fact. She commented, “This is amazing!! Love how forward-thinking you are! Funnily enough, the Egyptian women don’t take their husband’s last name, they stick to their own. I salute you Mr Phillips!”

While we don’t know what Grant’s surname was before he took his wife’s, we agree that Grant Phillips has a pretty nice ring to it.
