Man arrested for assaulting and robbing 13-year-old boy
A 46-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a 13-year-old boy and robbing the victim of his mobile phone along Buangkok Green.
In a news release, police said they received a report at about 7.35pm on Tuesday (9 October) regarding the incident. Officers from Ang Mo Kio Division later established the suspect’s identity and arrested him along Buangkok Crescent on the same day.
The suspect will be charged in court on Friday for robbery with hurt under Section 394 of the Penal Code. If convicted he faces up a jail term of between five and up to 20 years along with at least 12 strokes of the cane.
Members of the public are advised to adopt the following crime prevention measures:
Always be alert and pay attention to your surroundings. If you suspect someone is following you, stay calm and proceed to a more crowded area or call the police;
Avoid wearing excessive jewellery or carrying large amounts of cash;
Carry your handbag away from the side of moving traffic when walking along streets;
Arrange for an escort home if you are returning home alone or late at night;
Carry a shrill alarm to scare off would-be culprits or alert other members of the public
