Houston Police Release Footage of Fatal Crash Involving Former Officer

Houston Police released surveillance and bodycam footage of a fatal car crash involving an officer which took place on December 26, 2021.

Officer Christopher Cabrera, who has since been fired, was driving at an “unsafe speed” northbound in the 4600 block of North Sherpherd Drive when he slammed into the side of a Cadillac CTS driven by Charles Payne, according to the Houston Police Department.

Payne was driving southbound and attempted to turn across the northbound lanes when Cabrera struck him.

This footage includes surveillance video from nearby businesses that captured the collision. Cabrera’s bodycam was not activated at the time of the crash, but it was switched on while he was checked out by paramedics.

Payne, the 75-year-old driver, was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
