SINGAPORE — The bivalent Moderna/Spikevax COVID-19 vaccine will be made available to healthcare workers in the public and private sector from 25 Oct 2022, the Ministry of Health has announced.

In a statement on Friday (21 Oct), the MOH said that eligible healthcare workers aged 18 and above were recommended to receive an additional dose of the bivalent vaccine.

These are healthcare workers who received their last vaccine dose over five months ago and have achieved minimum protection of at least three doses of mRNA vaccine/Nuvaxovid or four doses of Sinovac-CoronaVac.

"This is to protect and support our healthcare workers who are at higher risk of exposure to COVID-19," the MOH said in its statement.

Eligible healthcare workers may walk in to any of the nine Joint Testing and Vaccination Centres (JTVCs) offering the Moderna/Spikevax vaccines. They will need to produce a valid staff pass carrying their name and the cluster or institution logo for identification.

Healthcare workers without passes could also produce a memo bearing the company or organisation's letterhead or official stamp as proof, the MOH said, adding that separate arrangements may be made by the respective healthcare institutions to provide in-house vaccination for those who are not able to visit the vaccination centres due to work demands.

The new Moderna COVID-19 vaccine that targets the original novel coronavirus strain and the Omicron variant was recommended for primary series and booster vaccinations in those aged 18 years and above in Singapore earlier in the month.

The bivalent vaccine is not available for persons under 18 years as it has not undergone trials in this age group.
