The top Dota 2 teams of Southeast Asia are retooling ahead of the 2021-2022 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) Winter Tour Regional Finals.

BOOM Esports announced on Wednesday (9 February) that they will be competing in the Southeast Asian Regional Finals with former Motivate.Trust Gaming (MG.Trust) carry player Souliya "JaCkky" Khoomphetsavong as a stand-in for Justine Ryan "Tino" Grimaldo, who has been moved to the inactive roster.

BOOM Esports' move comes after T1 announced that Kim "Gabbi" Villafuerte will be their stand-in for the Regional Finals as Nuengnara "23savage" Teeramahanon was loaned to MG.Trust to replace JaCkky.

After a preseason roster overhaul that saw Filipino stars Erin Jasper "Yopaj" Ferrer, Timothy "Tims" Randrup, and Andrei "skem" Ong join Indonesian stalwart Saieful "Fbz" Ilham, BOOM Esports has quickly emerged as the top team of the DPC's Southeast Asian regional league.

Despite getting relegated to Division II at the end of the 2021 DPC season, BOOM Esports was promoted to Division I prior to the start of this season after Omega Esports was disqualified from the DPC due to its players being involved in "match-fixing activities" last November.

BOOM Esports were quick to capitalise on their newfound opportunity, finishing the Winter Tour regional league atop the standings in Southeast Asia with a 6-1 record. Their only loss notably came at the hands of T1, the region's top team last season.

BOOM Esports will now be competing with JaCkky in the Winter Tour Regional Finals alongside T1, Fnatic, and Team SMG. The Lao carry player was notably one of the few bright spots in a struggling MG.Trust squad that was relegated to Division II at the end of the Winter Tour.

The Regional Finals will be held on the weekends of 11 to 13 February and 18 to 20 February. The tournament series will see the Top 4 teams of the DPC's six regional leagues fight for their cut of a US$100,000 prize pool and all-important DPC points.

Dota 2 developer Valve Software will be holding the Regional Finals online as a replacement for the canceled Winter Major.
