All 7 new COVID cases in Singapore imported, including 70-year-old PR

SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed seven new COVID-19 cases in Singapore as of Wednesday (28 October), taking its total case count to 57,987.

All of them are imported as well as asymptomatic and “were detected from our proactive screening and surveillance”, said the ministry.

Amongst them is a 70-year-old male permanent resident who returned from Belgium, while the remaining six are currently employed in Singapore, added the MOH.

One is a work pass holder who arrived from Switzerland, and five are work permit holders who arrived from Myanmar and the Philippines.

All of them were placed on the stay-home notice upon their arrival here and were tested while serving the notice.

The MOH noted that the number of new, as well as unlinked, cases in the community has increased from two cases in the week before, to three in the past week.

Separately, the ministry also added the Nanyang Community Club’s Anytime Fitness gym – visited on six separate occasions – and a Kopitiam outlet at the Changi Airport to a list of places visited by community cases while infectious.

99% of total cases have recovered; none in ICU

With seven more patients discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities on Wednesday, 57,890 cases – or 99.8 per cent of the total – have fully recovered from the infection.

Most of the 40 hospitalised cases are stable or improving, while none is in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

A total of 29 patients with mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

Apart from 28 patients who have died from COVID-19 complications, 15 others who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four, whose deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease.
