COVID-19: MOH confirms 61 new cases including 1-year-old Singaporean girl
SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed 61 new COVID-19 cases in Singapore as of Tuesday (11 August) noon, taking the country’s total case count to 55,353, including a one-year-old Singaporean toddler.
Of the cases, there are two community cases, three imported cases, and 56 foreign workers residing in dormitories.
The community cases are Singaporeans linked to previous cases. The 30-year-old man and one-year-old girl (cases 55381 and 55382) are family members who had been identified as contacts of previously confirmed cases. They had been placed on quarantine, and were tested when they reported having symptoms.
Bukit Timah Market & Food Centre is among five new locations added by the Ministry of Health (MOH) to the list of public places visited by COVID-19 cases in the community recently.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has remained stable at an average of two cases per day in the past two weeks. The number of unlinked cases in the community has also remained stable at an average of one case per day in the past two weeks.
Amongst the imported infections, cases 55403 and 55408 are long-term visit pass holders who arrived from India on 28 July and 29 July. The remaining case 55415 is a dependant’s pass holder who arrived from India on 30 July. All of them had been placed on 14-day Stay-Home Notice (SHN) upon arrival in Singapore, and were serving their SHN at dedicated facilities.
The Inter-agency Taskforce has completed testing all workers in the dormitories. There are currently about 22,500 workers who are still serving out their quarantine period. These workers will be tested when their isolation ends, and the case counts are expected to remain high in the coming days, before tapering down thereafter.
Over 50,100 discharged; none in ICU
With 519 more patients discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities on Tuesday, 50,128 cases – some 90 per cent of the tally – have fully recovered from the infection.
Most of the 104 hospitalised cases are stable or improving, while none is in critical condition in the intensive care unit, down from one on Wednesday.
A total of 5,094 patients with mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive are isolated and cared for at community facilities.
Apart from 27 patients who have died from COVID-19 complications, 15 others who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four, whose deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease.
“Only cases where the attending doctor or pathologist attributes the primary or underlying cause of death as due to COVID-19 infection will be added to the COVID-19 death count,” said the MOH in previous press releases, adding that the method of assessment is consistent with international practices for classifying deaths.
