Indonesian VALORANT team BOOM Esports have qualified for VALORANT Champions 2022 after they defeated fellow Indonesians ONIC Esports in the grand finals of the APAC Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) on Sunday (7 August).

With their dominant 3-1 win against ONIC Esports, BOOM Esports qualify for VCT Champions 2022, where they will join Paper Rex and XERXIA as APAC’s representatives.

BOOM Esports started the APAC LCQ in the upper bracket quarterfinals, making a strong impression by beating Hong Kong's Griffin Esports, 2-1.

They then swept ONIC Esports, 2-0, in their first encounter in the upper bracket semifinals.

BOOM Esports continued their streak in the upper bracket finals, where they came out swinging against Singapore’s Bleed Esports en route to a 2-1 victory and a spot in the grand finals.

Meanwhile, ONIC Esports barreled through the lower bracket to secure a rematch against BOOM in the grand finals, knocking out Made in Thailand, Team Secret, and Bleed Esports in the process.

BOOM Esports started the grand finals strong, taking a solid 13-10 win in game one at Bind before outlasting their opponents in a 14-12 slugfest in game two at Haven.

ONIC Esports took payback in game three at Fracture, where they took a 13-11 victory to extend the finals to a fourth game.

BOOM Esports ended the nail-biting series by taking Icebox 13-11 to win the APAC LCQ champions and qualify for VALORANT Champions 2022.

With their victory, BOOM Esports will be joining Singapore's Paper Rex and Thailand's XERXIA as APAC's representatives in VALORANT Champions 2022.

Beyond qualifying for this year's VALORANT Champions, BOOM’s victory in the APAC LCQ also spelled both a comeback and payback for the team.

During the APAC Stage 2 Challengers just a couple of months ago, the team only managed to reach the upper bracket quarterfinals before getting dropped into the lower bracket by none other than ONIC and knocked out from the competition by XERXIA.

It seems like the team already caught their second wind, however, with their dominant streak during this LCQ.

VALORANT Champions 2022 will be the culmination of the 2022 VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT). The tournament will be held from 2 to 18 September in Istanbul, Turkey and features 16 of the best VALORANT teams in the world vying to become the new VALORANT world champions.
