Television celebrity Rui En is assisting police investigations into an accident allegedly linked to drink-driving.

The 35-year-old Channel 8 star was said to be driving a BMW car when it hit a stationary motorcycle at a car park in Clementi Ave 2 on Tuesday (12 April).

In response to queries by Yahoo Singapore whether Rui En was involved in the accident, the police said on Wednesday (13 April), “The police confirmed that an accident involving a car and a stationary motorcycle was reported at a car park near Block 331 Clementi Ave 2 on 12 April at about 4.16pm. The 35-year-old female driver is currently assisting with investigations.”

Hype Records, which manages the actress, issued a statement on Wednesday “regarding Rui En’s involvement in an unfortunate incident that occurred yesterday, 12 April 2016.”

“At around 1610hrs, she was returning home and was driving into the car park located at her block. Due to some misjudgment, she accidentally knocked over a stationary motorcycle. No other driver and no one was hit or involved in the incident,” Hype said.

“She had no intentions of ignoring or even running away from her responsibility,” it added.

According to a report by Lianhe Wanbao, Bahrom Sarmiten, the 52-year-old owner of the motorcycle, was walking towards the car park when he heard a loud bang. He discovered that a black BMW had sent his bike flying.

The driver had lost control of the car, which went up a kerb, according to the man. He thought that the driver would get out of the car but she went back on to the road and started to drive off, the report said.

The man blocked the car and knocked on the window to get the driver’s attention but she continued driving. After he knocked on the window repeatedly, she finally stopped the car.

He saw her trying to hide her face. After putting on a pair of sunglasses, she came out of the car smelling of alcohol, he claimed, according to the report. When the man confronted her, the first words out of her mouth were, “Do you know who I am?”

The man said, “At the time, I really didn’t know who she was. But I was thinking, even if she was a minister’s daughter, I would not care.” Later on, a passing Chinese resident told him that the woman was Rui En, the report said.

She tried to settle the matter with him privately and was willing to pay $2000 but he rejected the offer. “$2,000 not enough? It is cash you know,” she supposedly said to the man.

When the police arrived at the scene, she hurriedly hid in the car and locked the doors, the man told Wanbao.

Upon the police insistence, she got out of the car to take a breathalyser test, he said. She was then taken to a police station to assist with investigations.

Hype said that the car park is where the actress parks her vehicle daily for many years.

“Understandably, the owner of the motorcycle was upset and unfortunately, her intentions to position her vehicle in a safe area were mistaken. The owner was very angry and reported the incident to the police,” it said.
